Bayern Munich will consider the prospect of putting David Alaba up for sale, with a host of Premier League clubs and Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing the defender.

Alaba has been a key part of Bayern’s squad for nearly a decade, racking up nearly 400 appearances and winning nine Bundesliga titles. His contract expires in 2021, however, and talks over an extension have been protracted.

According to the Telegraph, Bayern are concerned they could lose Alaba for nothing in 2021, with the club tempted to cash-in on him in the next transfer window. PSG are one of the clubs interested in the Austria international, as they look to replace Thiago Silva. The Brazilian, who is currently the Ligue 1 side’s captain, will leave Parc des Princes at the end of the season.

Premier League clubs are expected to express their interest in the 27-year-old and Manchester City – who are managed by Pep Guardiola, Alaba’s former manager at Bayern – are known to be interested in the versatile player, as revealed by 90min.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have also expressed in interest in Alaba, and a race to secure his signature could be on should Bayern opt to sell.

One of Austrian’s primary attributes is his versatility, displaying competence as a central midfielder, winger, centre back and left back, though he has spent the majority of his career playing as the latter. He has been deployed as a centre back for much of the 2019/20 campaign, with Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez both suffering long-term injuries during the season.

Alaba has been excellent in central defence this season, while Alphonso Davies – who replaced the Austrian at left back – has also put in some impressive displays.

A member of Austria Wien’s youth team, Alaba joined Bayern at the age of 16 and has been with the club – bar a loan spell at Hoffenheim in 2011 – ever since.
