Neymar Would Have to Take Major Pay Cut to Seal Barcelona Return

?Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar would have to take a massive wage deduction, roughly £27m per season, if he wishes to seal a return back to Barcelona. 

Neymar famously left Barça to take the next step in his career back in 2017, joining PSG in a world record deal, but last summer saw the Brazilian heavily linked with a return to his former club after allegedly regretting his decision to leave. 

While no deal ever materialised, talk of a reunion has continued to persist throughout the 2019/20 campaign. On the field, Neymar has managed 18 goals and ten assists in just 22 appearances this season for the Ligue 1 outfit – a strong return that has only added to the interest in his services.

Talk of a return never seems to be too far away, and ?Mundo Deportivo have provided another update on the forward’s situation. The Spanish outlet claim that Neymar is at a crossroads in his career, and he must now decide – money or happiness.

The report claims that once his move to ?Barça fell through last summer, he planned to try again at the end of the 2019/20 season, but the problem is that he would have to take a major wage cut should he wish to complete the switch. 

Mundo Deportivo even claim that PSG are trying to persuade the 28-year-old to stay, and they are trying to do so by offering Neymar a raise. They have offered him a new deal that would see him earn roughly £45m per season – including a £12m sponsorship deal with the National Bank of Qatar.

But if ?Neymar were to choose Barça, he would only initially earn around £18m. However, this figure would increase with each renewal. 

This, of course, is a significant reduction, but Mundo Deportivo further note that time is running out for him to make his decision. This is because there are presidential elections next year and it is far from clear who is likely to come out on top.
