La Liga Suspended for Two Matchdays & Real Madrid Quarantined Over Coronavirus Fears

?La Liga have confirmed that they will suspend all action for the next two weeks following the news that Real Madrid had been put under quarantine because of the coronavirus.

A player from the Real basketball team has been diagnosed with the virus, and given the two teams share training facilities in Valdebebas, both the football and basketball sides have been put under a quarantine which will last at least 15 days.

?El Chiringuito revealed the diagnosis at the club, and now the league have confirmed on their ?official website that all play will be suspended for the next two game weeks as a result of the issue.

?Real were scheduled to face both Eibar and Valencia in their next two games, but obviously those fixtures cannot go ahead.

Fixtures were already scheduled to be held behind closed doors for the next two weeks to keep fans as safe as possible, but play has now been suspended altogether in order to keep players safe as well.

The isolation period for coronavirus is recommended to be 14 days, and once that period is over, ?La Liga will make a new decision over whether to proceed with the rest of the fixtures, but only once they are confident that every player from every club in the division is not under threat.

A separate decision will also have to be made by UEFA over whether to continue with the ?Champions League. Real are set to face ?Manchester City in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday 17 March.

There have already been calls to postpone the rest of the tournament, but Real’s inability to fulfil their fixture could be the final straw for decision-makers, who have already agreed to play several games behind closed doors.
