?Barcelona are eyeing up a £20m move for Chelsea’s Willian before the end of the window, having been long-term admirers of the forward.
The Brazilian has enjoyed/endured an indifferent 2019/20 season, finding the back of the net four times in 23 league outings but dipping in and out of form throughout the season and drawing criticism from some sections of the Blues’ fanbase.
His most successful ?Premier League season in regards to goal contributions came in the 2017/18, when he notched six goals and set up another seven. Such was the success of that term that Chelsea fended off multiple efforts from Barça to secure his signature – with bids going as high as £55m rejected by the west London outfit.
With Willian’s contract expiring in the summer, a few sides have been tipped for late bids to lure him away from Stamford Bridge for a fee thought to be around £20m. It’s a figure thought to be enough to tempt Chelsea to sell, and thus avoid losing him for free in July.
According to ?Sky Sports, Barcelona are one such club. The current La Liga champions are supposedly preparing a late move for the 31-year-old winger, with the transfer window set to slam shut on Friday.
La Blaugrana have been actively on the lookout for a new forward this window following the injury sustained to Luis Suarez, however, the players in question have all be centre-forwards, not wide players.
With no known incomings in place for Chelsea this window, Frank Lampard will likely be reluctant to part with an experienced member of his squad at this stage of the season.
The Blues are on the hunt for forward reinforcements themselves as they bid to maintain a top four position, but it would seem highly unlikely – and highly foolish – to let Willian go without any backup in place, even if £20m is a good sum given the circumstances.
