A lone goal by Salomón Rondón sinks Uruguay after just two games at the Copa América; Suárez did not play
The Uruguay national team were upset by Venezuela on Thursday night, falling 1–0 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, thus mathematically ensuring the South American giants will not be around for the knockout stages.
Salomón Rondón scored the game’s only goal in the 36th minute.
Uruguay, whose 15 titles are tops in the history of the competition, were unable to draw level.
Rondón was named Man of the Match.
FC Barcelona striker Luis Suárez did not play for Uruguay, despite warming up in the second half.
Despite being oficially knocked out of the tournament, Uruguay and Suárez still have one game to play at the 2016 Copa América. Uruguay play Jamaica on June 13 at Levi’s Stadium.
