The local rivals are set to meet for the fourth time this year in a game that will have a huge bearing on the league championship

Barça and Espanyol face each other yet again on Sunday at the Camp Nou at 5.00pm CET. The league title is at stake for the home side, while the visitors are not entirely safe from relegation, and the game also brings all the tension that any local derby does. Here are some of the juiciest factoids going into the game.

FC Barcelona have hosted Espanyol in 81 league games and have won 63, drawn nine and lost just nine. Barça have scored 197 goals and conceded 71.

The biggest win dates all the way back to 1931, when Barça won 6-2 at the old Les Corts ground. Arocha got a hat-trick that day and Bestit (2) and Roig got the others.

The most repeated result in this fixture is 1-0 to Barcelona, which has happened 22 times counting games played home and away.

This is the third time that the game has been played on May 8. On that day in 1977, Barça, managed by Rinus Michels, won 4-2 at the Camp Nou, and at the same place in 2011, Pep Guardiola led Barça to a 2-0 derby win.

Barça could be confirmed champions this weekend, but for that to happen, Atlético and Real Madrid would both need to slip up. Barça have only clinched the title once in a game against Espanyol. That was at Les Corts on 17 April 1949, when a 2-1 win thanks to a César brace did the job.

Leo Messi is a specialist against Espanyol. He’s scored eight goals in the last four derbies at the Camp Nou. His free kick in January set the team on the road to a 4-1 victory in the Copa del Rey first.

Rakitic has played 34 games this season, more than any other FCB player. Espanyol’s most used player is Álvaro González, with 35.

Luis Suárez is Barça’s top goalscorer in La Liga with 35 goals, while the leading ‘parakeet’ is Ecuadorian striker Caicedo with 8.

Barça have not lost a derby for 13 games. Since then, they have accumulated 10 wins and three draws, and in ten of those games they have kept clean sheets.
