Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone, along with club captain Gabi Fernández, spoke to the media ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against FC Barcelona.

The Catalans hold a narrow 2-1 advantage from last Tuesday’s meeting in Barcelona, where Luis Suarez scored twice to turn the match around after Fernando Torres’ opener.

The passionate Argentine boss said his side will play in their familiar intense approach and will do all they can to reach the last four of the competition. Here is the pick of his and Gabi’s comments:

“We will play with intensity, speed and contact,” while stating that “the opponent is superior” and that Barça will play how they always do.

“The Barça players will not be surprised by the atmosphere because they are accustomed to pressure.”

Effect of last week’s meeting

“In a match like this, what happened previously does not have an effect on the start of the match, but it can be important over the course of 90 minutes.”

Gabi up for the challenge

“We will show that we want to compete with the best, and the stage is set to do something great in a competition that excites us,” said the Atlético captain.
