Luis Enrique: We never said the league was over

“We have to stand by the team when it needs us most” says the FC Barcelona manager after defeat at Real Sociedad. “And now is the time to do that”

After Barça lost 1-0 at Anoeta to a Real Sociedad side that scored with its only shot on target, first team manager Luis Enrique faced the press by saying that “you need to have more possession against a team that defends like they do.”

The Asturian went on to confess that “we were poor in the first half. We lacked control and order, and we wanted to sort the game out more with our hearts than with our heads.”

If there was any single ‘culprit’ to blame for the setback in San Sebastian, the FCB boss felt that man was Real’s Argentinian goalkeeper. “Rulli had yet another great day against us” he commented. “We didn’t deserve to lose, but the result is what we got. And after 32 games, it’s still us who are top of the league.”

Back-to-back defeats have certainly changed the look of things at the top of the Liga table. As Luis Enrique rightly puts it “we have no margin for error, the evidence tells us that. This league will be won by the team that is most emphatic over the last few weekends.”
