The FC Barcelona manager was elated with his players’ performace in a complicated road game

Around twenty minutes after the final whistle of FC Barcelona’s sterling 4–0 victory over Eibar, head coach Luis Enrique sat down behind the microphone in the press room inside Ipurua Municipal Stadium. With his perpetually pink cheeks and regular raspy voice, he rested one elbow on the table, put his hand under his chin and, with a gaze the oozed satisfaction, waited patiently for the first question.

“Just the other day we played a spectacular game, especially when we went back and analysed it, and today I think we were even better,” he said. “We were very solid against a very tough team. We overcame their pressure every time they applied it thanks to how we were able to circulate the ball and our positioning.”

“It was a complete game,” he said.

But despite Luis Enrique’s conclusions, he offered a different assessment of how he saw things during the match.

“At half-time I told my players that they had to be very careful, that the game could change at any moment,” he said. “But in the second half it turned out to be much the same. We were sharp and we managed to keep a team as tough as Eibar from generating scoring chances.”

On running the unbeaten streak to 36-games:

“The team just keeps getting better and isn’t losing any ambition.”

“When these players are on their game it’s very difficult to stop them.”

On the seemingly insurmountable eight-point lead in the table:

“We can’t let anything distract us.”

“There’s no guarantee we’ll be at the same level every game.”

“We’re well-positioned but there are a lot of points still in play.”

On the play of Munir El Haddadi, who started in place of the suspended Neymar and scored a goal:

“It’s really tough for a young player who doesn’t get that many minutes to come in and participate successfully. Munir was very good today. He looks like he’s got a bright career ahead and we’re very happy with him.”
