Ahead of FC Barcelona’s trip to Madrid to take on Rayo Vallecano on Thursday (9.00pm CET), Luis Enrique spoke to the media about what he expects from the game.

The Barça boss talked about the opponents, his squad and the opposing manager among other topics. Here is a pick of what Luis Enrique said during his press conference:

The opposition and their manager

“You can never be relaxed against Rayo. It will be an uncomfortable game.”

“What I like about Rayo is their love to attack and desire to complicate life for their opponent as close as possible to your area. I love Paco Jémez’s philosophy.”

“What Paco Jémez is doing deserves a lot of credit. Rayo continue to be a difficult team to play, and it has been four seasons that they have been playing good football in the top division, which is very commendable.”

About squad rotation

“Being a coach is about constantly making decisions. Until an hour before the game, nobody knows who will play.”

“Resting the three forwards will depend on what I see fit. What I do is always for the benefit of the team, without committing risks.”

The title race

“Any lapse in concentration can prove costly. The league is still open because there are plenty of points still at stake.”

A unique team

“I highly value the great squad I have, who are a unique and different group. Barça has an identity and this can be seen over many years.”

Busy fixture list

“We’re used to having a match every three days and it’s been going well. But to have a calm week every now and again is good.”

“Fatigue is normal and common, similar to last season, and I’m looking forward to the key games that will decide the titles.”
