Jamie Carragher claims "Suárez can get 50 goals by the end of the season”

In an interview with the club media, the ex-Liverpool star discusses FC Barcelona, and especially his two former colleagues Suárez and Mascherano

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher was in the Camp Nou commentary boxes on Wednesday for the Copa del Rey semi-final with Valencia. The day after he paid a visit to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, where he was able to meet the likes of Rakitic and Leo Messi and also say hello to his former Liverpool colleagues Luis Suárez and Mascherano.

“Suárez was always a fantastic player but with Barcelona he’s moved up another level” he says in an interview with Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.com. “We always knew how good he was at Liverpool, but had to do that in the Champions League. Now he’s one of the greatest players in world football. You wonder how many goals he’ll get by the end of the season. He should be looking at maybe 50 goals.”[[CITA_1]]

He goes on to say that “Mascherano is playing in a different position to what he did with Liverpool. He’s built a great big man-little man relationship with Piqué. He’s very aggressive and because he was a midfield player he can also play the ball from the back, which is what Barcelona want.”

On the famous trident, Carragher comments that “Barça have three star players at the front and they’re very unselfish. They always try to assist each other. They scored seven against Valencia, but it could have been ten or twelve if they had been more selfish or ruthless. But they all want to see each other do well, and I think that’s a great trait of Barcelona.”

Asked who he likes best in the team, he answers Messi, but adds that “I think that’s obvious. So, if I couldn’t pick him then I’d say Iniesta. I think he’s a fantastic player and person. He seems very humble. He never talks too much. Him and Xavi were always my favourite Barcelona players.”
