In a difficult away game against a well disciplined side with high hopes this season, Barça B were never going to have it easy in El Collao against Alcoyano. A point from the 3-3 draw is fair reward for Gerard López’s side and maintains his side’s unbeaten run after a series of six wins in a row prior to Sunday’s away game. The home side took the lead in the first half but the blaugranes fought back to take a 3-1 lead and appeared to be heading for their seventh victory in a row. However, the team coached by former Sevilla keeper Andrés Palop turned things around with two goals in five minutes to claim a point and bring Barça’s B winning run to an end.

In the first half the visitors were able to soak up the pressure as Alcoyano started strongly. However, there was nothing they could do about Liberto’s opener after 10 minutes as he headed home from Alfaro’s cross. Barça remained calm and the equaliser came just before the break, Dani Romera picking up Samper’s pass to finish well.

An electric second half

With only three minutes played after the restart, Barça took the lead thanks a tremendous effort from Romera. In the 52nd minute it was 3-1, Gumbau’s free kick extending the advantage for Gerard López’s team. However, Alcoyano were not finished and Alfaro pulled one back on the hour mark to give Palop’s team hope. They were rewarded with the equaliser just five minutes later when Yacine made it 3-3, taking advantage of a loose ball in the Barça box.

Alcoyano were reduced to 10 men when Alfaro was shown a second yellow. Barça were unable to take advantage and when Xemi’s effort curled just wide with eight minutes remaining, both side appeared to be happy with a point from a pulsating encounter.
