Alen Halilović came to Futbol Club Barcelona from Dinamo Zagreb in the 2014/15 season. After playing 30 games with Barça B and scoring four goals, the Club sent him to Sporting Gijón on loan last August so he could continue growing as a player.

Now, six months after his arrival in Asturias, Halilović will be facing Barça for the first time. It will be a special match for him on Wednesday night.

“I’m very happy to play against Barça. It will be a nice game and I’m really excited,” he told Halilović has many fond memories of his mates, making Wednesday extra unique. “My best friend is at Barça — Rakitic. I really want to play against him but also against Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. It is the best team in the world,” he said.

Although Halilović’s loan to Sporting expires this summer, he acknowledged that he does not think much about the future: “Right now I don’t care. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season,” he said.

Happy in Gijón

After six months playing for ‘Pitu’ Abelardo at Sporting, Halilović is very happy and pleased to have come to Gijón, not just “because of the city but also because of the team and the coaching staff.”

Halilović also took the opportunity to praise his coach, the former FC Barcelona player Abelardo.

“He’s very good person and a good coach. With him we are playing very well, despite being a young team. But we have to keep working hard for the rest of the season. Because our goal is to avoid relegation,” he said.
