This special video tells the admirable story of FC Barcelona’s new signing, whose dream has finally coming true after years of battling in the face of adversity
Aleix Vidal can now feel completely part of FC Barcelona. He has finally made his first team debut after spending several months waiting on the side-lines.
“I was aware of the suspension” he says. “I knew I was going to have to make sacrifices. I knew it was going to be a long, hard wait. But when Barça called, it took me less than half a minute to decide. I wanted to make my dream come true at last.”
Accepting an offer from Barça, whatever the circumstances, was never going to be a difficult decision for a man who knows more than anyone what it means to be patient, work hard, and keep battling for the chance to finally arrive.
Long and winding road
It’s been a marathon journey for Vidal. At age of just 12, he travelled the 100km from Valls to Barcelona every day to play in the Barça academy. But that only lasted a year and what followed were years of club-hopping. But he never gave up on the hope that he’d be back at Barça one day.
From small local clubs like Reus Deportiu and Pobla Mafumet, Vidal also spent time in the Real Madrid and Espanyol academies, and even in Greece, before finally making a name for himself at Almeria and then getting his first taste of the big time at Europa League winning Sevilla.
This video tells the fascinating tale, not just through the eyes of the player himself, but also through those of the different coaches that he has played under over the years. It’s quite a story – that of a player that through grit and determination has finally been rewarded with a place in the greatest squad of them all!
