Luis Enrique looked happy and more than a little relieved in the press room after his side’s hard fought 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid at Camp Nou. The Barça coach was also optimistic despite the blaugranes struggling for periods of a game that saw Atlético with  just 9 men come the final whistle. “I leave with the positive aspects from the game, although there are always things to improve upon,” admitted the man from Asturias.

“The game was strange at the start and we found it difficult to get into it. And then we were not at our best when the result was still up in the air,” commented Luis Enrique as he put into context his team’s stop start performance.

“Despite having two extra men we were unable to close the game out and we found it difficult to maintain possession.

“In the second half the objective was to close out the game as quickly as we could.”

The Barça boss played down the importance of the win over his team’s closest rivals for the league title – for the former blaugrana player “it is true that it was important game but there is still a long way in the title race to go, each team presents their own difficulties.”

Finally match winner Luis Suárez earned praise once more from his coach: “He was a complete player and he has even improved, he gives us plenty of options.”
