FC Barcelona squad en route to Japan

The plane carrying the blaugrana team to compete in the Club World Cup set off at 10.00am CET from El Prat airport

The FC Barcelona squad are on their way to Japan to compete in the Club World Cup in search of their third such title.

Flight MH8170 took off from Barcelona’s El Prat airport and is expected to land at Narita Airport (Tokyo) some 13 hours late, at approximately 23.20pm CET.

23 players have made the journey including Sergi Samper and Gerard Gumbau from the reserves. Summer signings Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal have also travelled to support the team despite being ineligible to compete.

Including those travelling with the squad are members of the board, such as technical director Robert Fernandez. Also on board are directors Jordi Cardoner, Jordi Mestre, Jordi Moix, Javier Bordas, Silvio Elías, Dídac Lee, Josep Ramon Vidal-Abarca, Pau Vilanova, Jordi Calsamiglia, Maria Teixidor, Enrique Tombas, Emili Rousaud and Oriol Tomàs, as too are Sport Secretary General of Catalonia Ivan Tibau and president of the Catalan Football Federation Andreu Subies.
