Sergi Roberto’s first goal for Barça came against BATE Borisov

Four years ago against their opponents this Wednesday, the midfielder opened his account for the first team with a goal at Camp Nou in the Champions League

It was 6 December 2011, Barça were already through to the last 16 as group winners in the Champions League and coach Pep Guardiola took the opportunity to give some of the B team players a chance in the game against BATE Borisov at Camp Nou. In the starting eleven that day was one Sergi Roberto, a key member of the B squad of the time, alongside other team mates such as Rafinha and Marc Bartra.

From the very first minute Barça dominated the game, playing their attractive brand of attacking football. However, the first goal did not arrive until the 35th minute. After a class move involving several players, it was Sergi Roberto who shot from the edge f the box to score his first goal in official competition for the first team.

Four seasons on and Sergi Roberto is set to face BATE Borisov once again on Wednesday at Camp Nou. At the moment the man from Reus in the south of Catalonia is hitting the headlines due to his excellent performances in the 13 official games he has played so far this season. Playing at right back or in midfield, he has created three goals and scored the equaliser in the comeback victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
