FC Barcelona Women drew 0-0 with local rivals Espanyol at Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque in Week 12 of the Women’s Premier Division. Barça were well organised in defence while strong winds throughout the match had a negative impact on Xavi Llorens’ side’s usual style of play.

Barça had the better of possession in the first half but neither side managed a shot on target. The visitors’ best chance was through Olga García whose left footed effort went just past the far post seven minutes before the break. The closest Espanyol came in the first 45 was a volley from Paloma but the strike went over the bar.

Sandra Paños came to Barça’s rescue on the hour mark as she denied Lombi with a great save (61 minutes). Alexia then had a decent chance to take the lead on 72 minutes but was unable to steer her effort home. Then, moments later, Espanyol keeper Norma made a fantastic stop from Jenni Hermoso’s header.

Both teams continued in their pursuit of a winner right until the last moments – Sandra, who came on as a late substitute, had a shot which sailed wide of the post (86 minutes) while Espanyol came close to snatching the points but an outstretched leg from Ruth denied Ines of a late goal (88 minutes) as the teams were forced to settled for a point each.
