The manager says that the draw against Elche “wasn’t what we wanted”, but it’s a good result given the outcomes of the Atlético and Real matches

Barça will be La Liga champions if they defeat Atlético Madrid next week: “I hope we have the support from the fans for 90 minutes next week”

La Liga will be decided in a ‘final’ at the Camp Nou when FC Barcelona host Atlético Madrid next week. Gerardo Tata Martino, after today’s game against Elche, talked about the point won by his team and the fact that Barça are still in the race for the title: “It wasn’t what we wanted, but we’re pleased with the point given the results from the other games (Atlético and Real Madrid); the most important thing is to get to the end of the season with a chance of winning the title.”

Martino and his men are now facing a decisive week, and the manager expects the fans to be on the team’s side next Saturday. “We hope to have the support from the fans for the remaining 90 minutes of the season; with the help of our people we can win the title,” he said.

Against Elche, Barça were uncomfortable on the pitch seeing that the home team were fighting to avoid the relegation zone. When asked about the match, Martino explained that “in the final minutes there was ambiguity in our approach because we needed to score but a goal from Elche would have seen us out of the competition. We tried until the end regardless of the results from the other matches.”

The Argentinian went on to explain: “This situation has happened to us before this season, when we miss early chances our patience runs out and it turns into desperation.”
