German efficiency
One of the defining characteristics of Jupp Heynckes’ team is their lethal accuracy in front of goal. With forwards like Ribéry, Mario Gómez and Thomas Müller on the pitch, the Bavarian team crushed Hannover 96. However, the first goal of the match wasn’t scored by a Bayern player, it was an own goal scored by Stindl. A few minutes later, Franck Ribéry doubled Bayern’s lead and Mario Gómez made it three before the break.
Bayern didn’t let up in the second half despite leading by three goals. On the 60th minute, Gómez fired for his second of the night, and minutes later Claudio Pizzaro scored Bayern’s fifth. The final minutes of the match saw Hannover 96 score its first and only goal thanks to a strike from Hoffman. But Bayern wasn’t done, Pizzaro netted his team’s sixth before the referee blew the final whistle.
Bayern Munich will host FC Barcelona at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening for the away leg of the Champions League semi-final.
