The Rayo Vallecano game was the seventh in which the two have both scored in the same game

Messi and Villa have only failed to appear on the scoresheet in seven of the team’s 46 games this season.

The team’s 126 goals

55 goals Messi
14 goals Villa
9 goals Cesc
7 goals Pedro
6 gols Adriano
5 goals Tello, Xavi, Iniesta, Alexis and Alba
3 goals Piqué
2 goals Thiago and Puyol
1 goal Alves, Busquets i Song

The goals from Messi and Villa in the win over Rayo, mean that Barça can go into the international break with a comfortable cushion at the top of the table. The two have proved to be the team’s main weapon so far this season, with 54.7% of the team’s goals so far this campaign.

69 of the team’s 126 goals

Leo Messi is the team’s leading scorer with an astonishing 55 goals, more than any other player in Spain or Europe, closing into his record 73 from last season and with 42 in the league, he is just eight short of last year’s half century.

David Villa has proved to be Messi’s ideal partner, with 14 goals himself, something particular impressive given the fact that he has started many games from the bench. Between the two, they have scored a total of 69 of the team’s 126 goals.

Seventh time the pair have scored together

The goals against Rayo represented the seventh time that Messi and Villa have both scored in the same game this season, having done so previously against Real Sociedad (5-1), Getafe (1-4), Rayo (0-5),Getafe (6-1),Sevilla (2-1) and AC Milan (4-0).

Even more revelatory perhaps is that in only seven of Barça’s 46 games this season have neither of the two scored (against Valencia, Granada, Benfica, Benfica, Madrid, Milan and Madrid). In just two of those games Barça failed to score – against Benfica at the Camp Nou and in Milan.
