Century for Valdés
The Barça goalkeeper has joined a small, select group of players who have made 100 appearances in European football’s top club competition.

Víctor Valdés made his CL debut in a qualifying phase match on 14th August 2002. More than 10 years have passed since then and the Barça keeper has reached the impressive total of 100 games. Appearance number 100 came on Tuesday in the magical comeback against AC Milan which handed Barça a place in the quarterfinals.

Only four goalkeepers have equalled Valdés’s achievement up to now – Casillas (129), Kahn (107), Shovkosvkiy (101) and Van der Sar (100).

The most successful

Valdés has the honour of having won three of the four Champions League trophies in the FC Barcelona Museum. The first was in Paris (2006), when he produced a great performance that helped take Rijkaard’s team to the summit of European football some 14 years after the Dream Team made history in Wembley. Then came Rome, in 2009, and just two years later Wembley again, in 2011, making him the most successful goalkeeper in the ‘100 club’ as regards CL winners medals.

45 clean sheets

In these 100 matches, Valdés has kept 45 clean sheets, the last of which was on Tuesday against AC Milan. It was the team’s second consecutive clean sheet following on from Saturday’s league victory against Deportivo.
