Jordi Alba also played against Barça in the semi-finals of the Cup in the 2011/12 season. He featured in the starting line-up in both legs and played the full 90 minutes. In the Mestalla, the game ended 1-1 but in the Camp Nou Barça won 2-0 and went through to the final, where they beat Athletic Club 3-0.
This Sunday, Jordi Alba will run out on the Mestalla pitch for the first time since he made the switch back from Valencia to his hometown club last July. He spent more than seven years in the Barça youth squads before eventually signing for Valencia. He made his First Division debut on 13th September 2009 against Valladolid and made 106 appearances in Valencia’s colours.
Five league appearances against Barça
Jordi Alba made five league appearances for Valencia against Barça, ending up on the losing side in four of them and enjoying just the one draw. On his three visits to the Camp Nou, Valencia lost 3-0, 2-1 and 5-1, while the two matches in the Mestalla finished 0-1 and 2-2. As a Valencia player, he played a total of 383 minutes against Barça and was sent off once.
