President Rosell and the Director of Football, Andoni Zubizarreta, show their “unconditional support” to the first-team manager and his family
“Tito is strong, very strong. He’s shown that he’s strong and we’re convinced that he’ll be back with us soon,” says Rosell
President Sandro Rosell and Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta held a press conference this Wednesday afternoon to express their “unconditional support to Tito Vilanova and his family,” after it was announced that the first team manager had suffered a parotid glad relapse. Vilanova will undergo surgery this Thursday.
“Tito is strong, very strong”
“The most important thing is that he recovers and that he has the necessary tranquility to undergo this [healing] process. Tito is strong, very strong. He’s shown that he’s strong and we’re convinced that he’ll be back with us soon,” said Rosell during the press conference at the Ciutat Esportiva. Team captains Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Víctor Valdés; Club Vice-President Josep Maria Bartomeu; Club directors Jordi Moix and Manel Arroyo, and the Director General of the Club, Antoni Rossich, were all in attendance.
Rosell added: “I liked seeing his face. He looked strong. He has extraordinary mental strength, he only looked worried for his wife, children and parents.”
Grateful for the support
The president thanked “on behalf of the Club and Tito Vilanova” all the support the manager has received from around the world. Rosell also explained why the Club had waited to announce Vilanova’s relapse until Wednesday afternoon: “We found out on Tuesday and we didn’t know the exact diagnosis until this Wednesday afternoon. We wanted to wait until after Tito Vilanova had explained the situation to the team.”
On this afternoon’s cancelled press conference and Christmas lunch with the press, Rosell explained that, besides wanting to wait for the team to find out from their manager (today’s training session was scheduled for six), his press conference overlapped with “Tito Vilanova’s meeting with his doctors.”
On the team’s situation, Rosell declared that he has “complete confidence in the team.” He added: “We are a strong and unified Club, we can overcome any adversity.”
