With one game to go in the group phase, Milan are the only team guaranteed a place in the last 16 who could end up facing Barça in the next round of the Champions League

Real Madrid, who will take second place in their group, can’t be drawn against Barça, as teams from the same country are still kept apart at this stage

Porto, PSG, Schalke 04, Arsenal, Shaktar Donetsk, Juventus, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Galatasaray or Cluj could be drawn to play Tito Vilanova’s side

Possible opponents in the Last 16

Group A
Porto or PSG

Group B
Schalke 04 or Arsenal

Group C
Milan

Group E
Shaktar, Juventus or Chelsea

Group F
Bayern

Group H
Galatasaray or Cluj

After five group games, 12 other teams have booked their places in the next round alongside Barça, winners of Group G. Malaga, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United have all won their groups and like Barça, they will be drawn against a second place team. Only two sides have already been confirmed as runners up in their groups – AC Milan and Real Madrid and since teams from the same federation can’t be drawn against each other in the last 16, the Italians are, for the moment, the only possible opponents for Barça.

Big name rivals

There are then still plenty of groups where the top two places are yet to be decided and there is still a lot to play for in the last group game. Porto and PSG will fight out top spot in Group A, Schalke 04 and Arsenal in Group B; Shaktar Donetsk –who are guaranteed at least second place – Juventus and Chelsea, in Group E, Bayern and Valencia –who can also not meet Barça in the next round- in Group F. In Group H, Galatasaray and Cluj are fighting for second spot, as are Benfica and Celtic in Barça’s Group G – neither of who can play Barça in the next round.
