The Azulgrana manger believes his team deserved to win this evening’s match in Seville. Barça outshot Sevilla FC by 15 to 8
“It would be better to not suffer but it’s important to have the ability to sacrifice yourself in order to continue competing,” said Vilanova
“A draw would not have been the fairest result.” Tito Vilanova believes that Barça “created enough chances to win the game.” The stats are clear, Barça attempted 15 shots this evening – 6 of which were on goal – to Sevilla’s 8 (3 were on goal). The manager praised his players for battling back from behind to claim victory: “it would be better to not suffer but it’s important to have the ability to sacrifice yourself in order to continue competing. This is what my team did throughout the match.” He added: “A team that fights back proves that they want to keep on winning.”
“Cesc played at a tremendously high level”
Cesc, who scored two goals, was one of the protagonists of the match in Seville. Vilanova said that the Catalan midfielder “played at a tremendously high level. He’s a player that’s eager to win, and his first goal reflects that. He’s playing better every time he’s on the pitch.” The manager also talked about Alex Song, “we’ve asked a lot of him lately because he was forced to play in a three-man defence, I think he played a great game.” Finally, the manager praised David Villa, the man that scored the match-winning goal. Vilanova highlighted the player’s recent good performances, but Vilanova also noted that he has to ease the forward into competitive play due to fact that the player has just recovered from a long injury.
Medel’s red card
Vilanova also talked about the play leading up to Medel’s red card. “If a player head butts an opposing player it’s a red card. The referee followed the rules.” On other controversial plays in the match, the manager said that “I’m puzzled by him [Mateo Lahoz], what most would consider to be a foul, he doesn’t.”
