Barcelona Star Lionel Messi Involved in €30m Specialist Hospital Project

?Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi has pledged to help with the construction of a hospital in Europe poised to deal with cancer in children, per ?Marca.

The forward has had a long relationship with children’s hospital Sant Joan de Deu, with the facility giving him the growth treatment he needed when he moved to Barca as a youngster. He certainly wouldn’t be the player he is today without the hospital’s help, and has never forgotten how it impacted his life.

Messi has helped finance said hospital in years prior, funding research and the training of Argentinian doctors at the facility.

And when he was informed of their latest project, the player did not hesitate to offer his support.

The construction of a new hospital annexed to the Sant Joan de Deu will be assisted by a project started by the Lionel Messi Foundation and the Barcelona Foundation. The facility will prioritise research into and treatment of child cancer, a disease which so far cannot be cured.

There is no knowledge on what to do to avoid it either, and treatment is very pricey. But with the player and his foundation backing the €30m project, certain affected kids will have a hospital available that is designed just for them.

The player is also backing the social media hashtag #paralosvalientes, meaning #ForTheBrave, set up to promote donations and financial support. And after scoring in a match against Sevilla last month, he painted two lines into his face to symbolise his support.

To date, €4m has been received. And while it’s a great haul, there’s still a long way to go.

Atletico Madrid Report Barcelona to FIFA After Learning an Approach Has Been Made for Griezmann

?Atletico Madrid have put a complaint in to FIFA after learning Barcelona approached star striker Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to the Blaugrana in recent weeks, and it would appear there is truth to the reports with Atleti now taking action against the Spanish league leaders for trying to talk to Griezmann, as reported by ?MARCA.

Chelsea FC v Atletico Madrid - UEFA Champions League

The 26-year-old, who recently got caught up in a race row for dressing up as a black basketballer, is under contract with the Colchoneros until June 2022, and the club will supposedly put the integrity of the the league being at stake in their complaint.

Atleti believe that whilst Barcelona genuinely want the player, the league leaders are trying to unsettle Griezmann and destabilise the rest of the dressing room as they try to fend off their challenge in La Liga.

Diego Simeone’s side are only six points behind Barca in second place and still haven’t lost, and Ernesto Valverde would like more breathing space.

It will be interesting to see how Atletico handle the situation, especially with Diego Costa available for registration in January following his move from Chelsea.

The Spaniard is returning to the club after a three-year stint in west London, and can finally play with the club’s transfer embargo now over. It could spell the end for Griezmann, who was a whisker away from leaving for Manchester United last summer.

REVEALED: Barcelona Director Explains Why Club Won’t Give Real Madrid El Clásico Guard of Honour

?Barcelona director Guillermo Amor has revealed why the club won’t be giving their fierce rivals Real Madrid a guard of honour before their hotly-anticipated El Clásico match on Saturday.

Los Blancos have recently returned from the Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where they beat Brazilian side Grêmio in the 1-0 in the final to claim the trophy.

As reported by the Independent, Spanish clubs traditionally form the ‘pasillo’ guard of honour when one of their side’s wins the Club World Cup – but Barça director Amor has claimed that the Catalan giants won’t be treating their rivals to the display of respect. Amor said:

In this club we use to give a guard of honour when we participate in the competition of the winning team… and now it is not the case”.

Barça star Jordi Alba took a similar stance on the matter, claiming:

We will see what happens but I think that we carry out the guard of honour in competitions where we play and we haven’t played the Club World Cup.”

Barcelona also broke the tradition last summer, when they refused to perform the pasillo for Real after they won the European Super Cup.

When Barça won the Club World Cup in 2011 and 2015, Betis and Villarreal respectively observed the tradition and gave the side a guard of honour.

??Real Madrid will be desperate to keep their title hopes alive by beating Barça on Saturday – as they currently sit 11 points off their rivals in fourth place.

Los Blancos have endured a shaky start to their campaign, seeing the Bernebéu fans turn on them after they’ve repeatedly failed to win matches.

Barcelona Star Set to Become the Latest European Name to Leave for Chinese Super League

?Argentine newspaper La Nacion are reporting that Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano is set for a move to Chinese Super League club Hebei Fortune.

The 33-year-old has been at the Nou Camp for seven and a half years, and there were some rumours of a surprise return to Liverpool, whom he left in 2010 for a move to Catalonia.

However, Mascherano is set to join the Chinese outfit at the end of next month’s transfer window as he becomes the latest European star to move to the riches of China.

??He will join fellow Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi, formerly of PSG and Napoli, who has between with Hebei Fortune since 2016.

Two time Champions League winner Mascherano will reportedly sign a two-year deal and the transfer itself will be in the region of €10m, according to reports. He will also apparently have a return clause in his contract, which would see him return to the Catalans at the end of his deal in Asia.

Mascherano will leave the Nou Camp with a staggering 17 major trophies, 331 appearances and just a single goal during his time in Spain as he goes to China.

Luis Suarez Reveals Why Antoine Griezmann Would Flourish at Barcelona Amid Transfer Speculation

?Since the departure of Neymar for a world record fee – £198m – to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window and ultimately dismantling of the famed ‘MSN’, Barcelona have been one superstar shy of another famed attacking trident.

According to a Spanish Radio interview with Luis Suarez, like Barça fans, the players would welcome the signing of another superstar during the transfer window.

Speaking to on RAC105, Luis Suarez seemingly suggested that he and Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann would compliment one another in a new Barça front three, by stating that the French international needs to play alongside a number nine.

“Barca always want the best players. If you look at [Griezmann], at Atletico he needs to play with a no.9. He’s not a fixed no.9,” Suarez said to RAC105 (as quoted by ?Liverpool Echo)

“Obviously, Griezmann would come here to add to the team and to help the side in the position that the coach wants him to play in.”

The Uruguayan international is not the first Barcelona player to cite Antoine Griezmann as a potentially brilliant acquisition for the Catalonian club. In an interview with Zero Wave, full-back Jordi Alba stated that he would “welcome” the arrival of Griezmann at Camp Nou.

“We are talking about a top player that has been doing really very at Atletico in recent years, any reinforcement would be welcome,” he said. “But I already said that the squad is very good and we are doing very well and we’ll see what happens in the winter transfer market”, said Alba to Zero Wave.

The signing of a player of the calibre of Antoine Griezmann would be a huge statement of intent from Barcelona. However, it is a move which would make very little sense during the January transfer window, as the French international will be cup-tied for the remainder of the Catalan club’s Champions League campaign.
