Barcelona Star Luis Suarez Ruled Out for 4 Months Following Knee Surgery

?Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has been ruled out of action for around four months, after the Uruguayan star underwent surgery on his right knee.

Suarez had an operation to solve a recurring problem with the external meniscus in his right knee last May, but the injury has continued to plague the striker, and he had to go under the knife once more to fix the issue.

Barcelona confirmed on ?Twitter that the forward will spend the next four months on the sidelines as he recovers from this further setback.

Suarez has been a regular starter for Ernesto Valverde’s side this season, and the former ?Liverpool star has bagged 11 goals in 17 games for the Catalan giants. The Uruguayan international will be a huge miss for Barça, who may use the January transfer window as an opportunity to seek a long-term replacement for the striker.

La Blaugrana have some excellent attacking alternatives to ?Suarez, with Antoine Griezmann capable of filling the central role for Valverde’s side. Wonderkid Ansu Fati is also an exciting prospect for the Camp Nou faithful, who may see more of their starlet in the coming months, given Suarez’s extended absence.

The ex-Ajax star missed two of Barça’s opening three games of the campaign with a calf injury, but he has featured in every subsequent league match for the Spanish champions. Suarez played a key role in los Cules’ recent 2-2 draw with rivals Espanyol, scoring and assisting in the second half to overturn their initial deficit.

Frenkie de Jong received a red card towards the end of the match, and Espanyol eventually capitalised on their one-man advantage, snatching a dramatic equaliser in the final minutes.

Barcelona sit joint-top of the La Liga table with fierce rivals ?Real Madrid, but pressure continues to grow on Valverde following the recent Spanish Supercopa defeat to los Rojiblancos.
